Simba: older Male Labrador Retriever. Has Cushings What
can we do to help you feel better? Do you know why you are sick? How do you
feel? “I want to feel better. I’m not sure why I feel bad. Can’t
you do something to test me and find out what I need? I know my immune system
is weak so if you can help with that it would be a start. I don’t like taking
the pills. Is there another way to make me better? Can you do that energy
stuff for me too? I hear from Bang that you helped him. I’d be so grateful if
you could do that for me. I’m not ready for the old dog rest home just
yet.”
[Bang is a
horse that lives on the property and tapping is energy work he has been
receiving. See below.] Bang: Red Bay older Quarter Horse gelding
Doesn’t
drink enough. Has had colic. Does he understand how severe it is not to drink
enough?
“I
feel full when I drink too much water, so I prefer to sip just a little. I
didn't realize that more water would keep away the stomachache. I can drink a
little more if it will help.” He thinks he might like
peppermint-flavored water. “That would be fun! I bang to get attention.
It gets lonely in the stall. I don’t like to be alone. Tell her not to worry so much, I’ll be ok.”
[Owner
reports he is drinking more than usual a few days later. She has more
questions about his behavior.] Has
he been left unattended (without
other horses)? Was he abused in the stall (pitchfork, etc.)? Has he been in a
situation where he has run out of water (and or food) so he thinks he has to
conserve? “They
wanted to use me as a stallion so I had to live in a stall by myself. It was
dark and smelly and I hated it. I was so angry that I acted out and they were
afraid to come in so my stall wasn’t kept clean. Some days I would get so
upset I’d knock over my water bucket and not have fresh water for a long
while. They told me that if I didn’t want water then they wouldn’t bring it
to me. I learned to get along without a lot of water. Bad habit I guess, but
it was what I had to do at the time. I understand from what you’ve told me
how serious it will be if I don’t change so I’m really making an effort. It’s
hard but give me time and I’ll do better.”
I was supposed to be the sire for a line of horses that would make them a lot of money. When they got too scared of me they sold me off and the next people I lived with decided to geld me so that I would be more manageable. At least after that I got to live with other horses so things got better. I just haven’t been able to forget those awful early days. It’s hard for me to trust people. But my person has been very good to me and I love her a lot. She’s proof that not all people are bad. So for her I will do my best to be a good horse.”
